The Passion according to St. John
set to music by Johann Sebastian Bach
Part 20
Erwäge, wie sein blutgefärbter Rücken
In allen Stücken
Dem Himmel gleiche geht,
Because, nachdem die Wasserwogen
Von unsrer Sündflut sich verzogen,
Der allerschönste Regenbogen
Als Gottes Gnadenzeichen steht!
Consider how His blood-stained back
in every way
goes to the same heaven,
There, after the waters and waves
Of our Great Flood are settled,
The all-beautiful rainbow
Stands as a symbol of God's grace!
